DESCRIPTION:

The Rohde & Schwarz NPA501 is a professional single-phase power analyzer developed for engineers, test laboratories, manufacturers, and quality assurance teams requiring accurate and repeatable power measurements. As part of the R&S Essentials portfolio, the NPA501 combines high measurement accuracy, advanced analysis functions, and graphical measurement capabilities within a compact bench-top platform. The NPA501 sits between the entry-level NPA101 power meter and the NPA701 compliance tester, adding advanced and graphical measurement functionality while maintaining ease of operation.

The instrument measures voltage, current, active power, apparent power, reactive power, power factor, frequency, energy consumption, harmonics, and inrush current characteristics. Its wide dynamic range allows accurate measurement of both ultra-low standby power consumption and high-power electrical equipment, making it suitable for consumer electronics, industrial equipment, power supplies, household appliances, and energy-efficient product development.

With a basic accuracy of 0.05%, a 16-bit measurement architecture, and a sampling rate of 500 kSa/s, the NPA501 provides detailed insight into power consumption behaviour and transient events. Engineers can analyse startup currents, monitor long-term energy usage, evaluate efficiency, and identify power quality issues without requiring additional instrumentation.

A key advantage of the NPA501 is its integrated graphical analysis capability. The instrument provides waveform mode, trend chart mode, harmonics mode, and inrush current analysis directly on the instrument display. Harmonic analysis can graphically display harmonics up to the 50th harmonic, while configurable trend charts allow long-term monitoring of voltage, current, power, frequency, and related parameters.

The analyzer also incorporates advanced measurement tools including PASS/FAIL testing, minimum and maximum value recording, external probe and shunt support, analog I/O, digital I/O, and data logging with CSV export. USB and LAN interfaces provide straightforward integration into automated test systems and production environments using SCPI command sets.
